A massive crude oil tanker was set ablaze off the coast of Dubai after an Iranian drone strike, in a dramatic escalation of tensions following fresh warnings from Donald Trump.
According to reports from Reuters and The Guardian, the Kuwait-flagged tanker—carrying about 2 million barrels of oil—was hit and caught fire, though authorities later confirmed no casualties and no oil spill.
Officials said the blaze was contained after the vessel sustained damage to its hull, easing fears of an environmental disaster in one of the world’s busiest routes.
The attack comes shortly after Trump warned that the United States could “obliterate” Iran’s energy infrastructure if a deal to ease the ongoing conflict is not reached, raising fears of a wider regional war.
The incident has already rattled global markets, with oil prices briefly surging amid concerns over disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz, a key passage for a significant portion of the world’s oil supply.
