Nigerian Army Vows Progress in Oyo Schoolchildren Rescue

More than 40 days after bandits abducted schoolchildren in Ogbomosho, Oyo State, the Nigerian Army assures the general populace that troops are making efforts to ensure safe rescues are being made. Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu confirmed the update on July 5.

On May 15, bandits attacked three schools in the Oriire area, kidnapping the children who remained in captivity. Operations are ongoing from different security bodies in the surrounding forests to secure their release.

Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu gave an update on July 5th, which marks the 163rd military anniversary, where he stated that troops have made various efforts to rescue kidnapped children from captivity. Public frustration has grown over the prolonged delay, with many drawing comparisons to the 2014 Chibok abduction.

Families of the missing schoolchildren continue to wait for results as the search extends into its second month.
