Osun Decides: Adeleke Wins Second Term, Defeats APC’s Oyebamiji

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has been re-elected for a second four-year term after winning the state’s governorship election held on Saturday, August 15, 2026.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Adeleke, who contested under the platform of the Accord Party, the winner after the final collation of results from all 30 local government areas in the state.

Adeleke secured 511,067 votes, defeating his closest challenger, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished third with 17,180 votes.

The results showed Adeleke winning in 19 of Osun State’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji secured victories in the remaining 11.

The final declaration was made in Osogbo by the Returning Officer for the election, Professor Joshua Ogunwole, who announced Adeleke as the winner after he secured the highest number of votes and satisfied the requirements of the law.

The victory means Adeleke, who first became governor of Osun State in 2022, will remain in office for another four years.

His re-election also places him among the few governors in Osun State’s history to secure a second term through an election. He joins former governors Olagunsoye Oyinlola and Rauf Aregbesola, who also secured second terms in office.

The election was closely contested, with both Adeleke and Oyebamiji recording strong performances across different parts of the state. However, Adeleke’s overall lead across the 30 local government areas was enough to secure his return to the Osun State Government House.

With the declaration, the 2026 Osun governorship election has officially concluded, and Adeleke is set to begin another four-year term as governor of the State.
